Counseling

Functional abdominal pain is common, real, and not dangerous; the gut and brain are sending stronger pain signals than usual. The goal is getting back to normal activities first, and the pain usually eases over time. Recommended supportive care with an emphasis on regular meals, fiber and water, good sleep, daily physical activity, staying in school, and relaxation or slow breathing during pain. Return precautions given including weight loss, blood in the stool, persistent vomiting, pain that wakes your child, fever, missing school, new symptoms, prolonged symptoms, worsening symptoms, and other concerns. Caregiver expressed understanding and agreement with plan. Answered all questions.
